Bigotry or ignorance on "Morning Joe?"

I was watching "Morning Joe" on MSNBC this morning, a generally enjoyable morning news roundup featuring former U.S. Congressman Joe Scarborough. What caught my attention was the segment when they go through the morning papers in the area.

They brought up a front page headline featuring a story in the New York Daily News [warning: the comments following the story are filled with vitriol] that discussed Cardinal Edward Egan's admonishment of former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for receiving holy Communion from Pope Benedict XVI during his papal visit. Guiliani is openly pro-abortion and is twice divorced.

Scarborough used it as an excuse to go off on a rant about the Catholic Church and forgiveness, even saying "judge not lest ye be judged." Either that's coming from a point of ignorance about a bishop's role in upholding the sacraments, or Scarborough's a bigot. He used to represent constituents in Florida's Panhandle, and trust me when I tell you from first-hand experience that anti-Catholic sentiment is very much alive there. At the very least, Scarborough has no understanding of irony.

It's sad that anti-Catholic statements constantly get a free pass.
