Catholicism and Reiki

Can someone explain to me just what Reiki is all about? I see that some Catholic groups and medical professionals around the country offer Reiki as an alternative form of healing that is compatible with Catholic beliefs. I always thought it was New Age since you're drawing "life force energy" from God only knows where, so I google "Catholicism" and "Reiki" and find this article ...

I was recently recommended a book by Jesuit Father Mitch Pacwa called "Catholics and the New Age." Has anyone read this book? A glance at the index had no mentions of Reiki. According to Reiki home site, here's a quick definition:

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Can someone explain to me how this is compatible with Catholic teaching? This sounds like a replacement for the sacraments, particularly the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. One site critical of Reiki says:

In essence, Reiki and the New Age paradigm in general, seeks to change our bodies and minds, which are temples of the Holy Spirit, into dens which spirit guides may inhabit, and which are reduced to metaphysical machines that can only be corrected and perfected through mechanistic energy infusions. It is a power paradigm which emphasizes control and domination.
