Catholic college shuts down contraception giveaway on campus

Nice to see a Catholic college taking action. It's so tiring to hear the opposite reaction of "everyone is having sex on college campuses anyway, so it's irresponsible to not provide birth control." Of course, no college can stop students from having sex, but to admit defeat like this student sadly seems to be the norm rather than the exception. As we've said on this blog many times, artificial birth control is never, ever, ever going to be morally right no matter how many ways we've justified it today. You go to college to learn, not to experiment sexually, although the latter is how the college experience is often portrayed and pushed -- you put aside everything that you learned from your parents since they are apparently oppressive and forcing a set of rules on you -- and you experiment and indulge to learn life lessons and "find yourself" (code for "letting oneself think they're in control when they're really being used"). Then you graduate and it's "good luck with those emotional and spiritual scars"... on to the next crop of naive kids. And yes, it was like this when I went to college quite a while ago, but it doesn't change the responsibility of Catholics to try as hard as they can to live their faith and not abandon it. The faith is truly countercultural, not the counterfeits heaped upon students on and around campus. From my experience, college only confirmed that the church is right on its teachings on sex and marriage.

We need to see more Catholic colleges stepping up like Stonehill. If you don't like it, transfer to another school.

While the battle for souls rages on at college campuses, we recommend that college students regularly read Christopher West's "Body Language" column. Just type in "Body Language" into the search engine and you'll get our archives.
