New Jersey abolishing death penalty

According to several news outlets, New Jersey is set to abolish the death penalty after the state assembly voted to approve a bill that replaces the death penalty with life in prison with no parole.

The Catholic bishops of New Jersey issued a statement last month calling on New Jersey politicians to sign into law the bill that calls for the repeal of the death penalty. Gov. John Corzine is the last step toward making New Jersey the first state to abolish the death penalty through legislation.
