WYD DAY EIGHT: GUEST BLOGGERS
Rebecca Drake, Holy Family Parish, Security
There are several highlights from the pilgrimage to date. One of the major highlights was viewing Pope Benedict XVI yesterday! We patiently anticipated the Pope’s arrival for hours standing at a bypass in the road hoping that the police were candid about the Pope’s travel plans. After waiting for 3 hours, we saw the Pope wiz by and yet in those moments of viewing the Pope driving by, we were able to feel a sense of wonder and excitement knowing that we were viewing the predecessor of Peter. These moments were indescribable. Another highlight of the pilgrimage was singing the Divine Mercy Chaplet in the convention center as we were preparing for catecheses. It is so wonderful being surrounded by a group of Catholic youth experiencing a God moment where the Holy Spirit is felt so deeply!

After waiting for about 3 ½ hours, we finally saw the Pope (July 17)! It was amazing to see him and it was better than we all imagined. He was moving a little fast to take many pictures, but we were able to get a few. It was worth the long wait standing against the fence to see the Holy Father.

BMW offered to make a new one, but the Pope is happy with the Mercedes. To all of us it looked kinda small, but it really was a good size. This is the ORIGINAL Pope Mobile.
